(For those not in the know, “Mafia” is a forum game that, in its most rudimentary form, has two phases and two types of players. The two phases are the “Day Phase” and “Night Phase”. During the night phase, the Mafia decides collectively which townsman to kill. During the day phase, everybody discusses who to “lynch”. The goal of the Mafia is to kill all the Townsmen, while the goal of the Townmen is to lynch all the Mafia. Discussion, suspicion, and evidence are vital aspects of the game.)

In a thread titled MURDER MANSION MAFIA: Day Phase One, Logical-Master, as moderator of the game, commenced the newest Mafia Game.

“MM stands for murder mansion,” L-M explained in the sign-up thread. “Essentially, this is a game which is parodied off of the debate.org community; the town and the mafia shall be made up of debate.org members and given that this is a theme game, there shall be stories added on to each day phase that will depict the events of the previous night.” For example, the users PoeJoe and I-am-a-panda suspect that the player who receives the role as “brian_eggleston” will be the jester. L-M warned strongly, however, that players must not reveal (or even lie about) their DDO characters; players are only allowed to lie about/reveal their Mafia Game roles.

The game will be played by a record number of twenty-four players, eleven of whom are new to the game. These new players are Ragnar_Rahl, Zodiac-Klla, PoeJoe, Lampshade, SaintNick, Numa, RhacH3ll3, Philosophical, Bookwormbill111, Zeratul, and Epicism. The returning players are burningpuppies101, dvhoose, ournamestoolong, JBlake, SportsGuru, theLwerd, I-am-a-panda, Johnicle, Harlan, DeadLeaves93, CrackofDawnJr, Italianstallion, and KRFournier. 45.83% of the players are new, while 54.67% are returning.

Debate Fans would like to wish the game and its players good luck!

In a thread titled “some friends jsut talking….,” four users — grehthedestroyer, saamanthagrl, 18freckles, and Mr.Cotton-Balls — sent rapid-fire messages back to each other, more than one hundred and fifty within an hour.

PoeJoe was the first to object. He wrote, “You guys should really consider taking this to messages.” PoeJoe wrote this on page nine of the thread. JBlake responded four pages later with, “Please refrain from clogging up our forums. Send each other PMs if you wish to use debate.com to ‘chat’. There is a feature in which you may all be included in such a message.” Mostly the doing of ipeedinyopool (but also a little by JBlake), the four eventually took their then-eighteen page thread to messages. (Also notable: s0m31john posted this picture, which this reporter views as mildly amusing.)

Then, the four would create the thread “ipeedinyopool and JBLAKE,” which condemned them. gregthedestroyer would write, “get a life please. leave us teenage kids alone. we dont want your candy.” The conflict has yet to resolve.

askbob is on fire!

He recently wrote a piece entitled, “A Brief History of DDC,” that briefly summarizes the brief history of our beloved favorite website. He takes us through the CWO controversy, to the rise of the cleaners, to where we are today. He even comments on the moderators and their respective positions. Definitely check that out!

Secondly, he is on a blitzkrieg mission to hunt down josh. In a thread he entitled “Info Tyme,” he encourages others to join him in his quest to find personal information on Josh. Already, he claims to have secured his IP address, a photo of him, and several online profiles. PoeJoe warned, “what you are doing may very well be illegal,” but no serious opposition has met askbob in this mission as of this writing.

Lastly, in a thread entitled “Forums cleaned!,” askbob was the first to notice that the spam threads of Oliver and illa have been deleted. This reporter hates to be redundant, but he begins to wonder, yet again, if moderator presence iw on a comeback. We can only cross our fingers and hope!

We at Debate Fans salute askbob for his continued effort to help DDC and its members. Thank you askbob; keep doing what you are doing, for what you are doing is good, and good is definitely good.

A link to the last page of a thread.

A link to the last page of a thread.

Sick and tired of having to click so many links to get to the last page of a thread, JBlake posted a thread entitled “Last” to explain his frustration. In it, he wrote:

What these forums needs is a ‘last’ button that takes us directly to the most recent page. It is a pain to click through every set of five pages (after the first ten) to get to the end.

Many users agreed including WINNER, askbob, I-am-a-panda, DiablosChaosBroker, and maddoxparadox.

Surprisingly, the moderator, who has not posted in several months, responded in a record time of one hour, twenty-seven minutes, and forty-six seconds. He wrote the simple but powerful message . . .

It has been added.

. . . and so it was added.

The moderator has received many compliments for this new future, including two by I-am-a-panda and s0m31john that allude the moderator to God.

This reporter is left to wonder: Could this be a sign? A turning point? Perhaps this is the start of something greater — a debate.com where moderator presence is profoundly evident. One is only left to dream.
